5 Must Watch Feminist Movies!

Here are my 5 favourite movie suggestions (Part-1). Do watch and let me know your views!

All the stories are somewhere inspired by true events. They are powerful stories of women fighting this patriarchial society in their own way, in their own places. But, their fight is for all of us.

I bring you movie recommendations from across the globe. This is to indicate, that women across the world are fighting together for our collective future! And, this is to celebrate more and more such women! May our tribe increase!

1. Suffragette (2015)  -  UK

Imagine a time when we didn't even have the social media opportunity to say #metoo. Thanks to the power of many many suffragettes, the world indeed is a better place for women. It started with the 'Right to Vote'. And if you thought all the women were suffragettes, you are wrong! Just like misogynistic women in our era who question the #metoo of their fellow women, even suffragettes faced such harassment from their kindred. May this story inspire you to believe, to stand up, to continue the good fight and to also cherish the suffragettes for their radicalism "Its deeds, not words".

2. Angry Indian Goddesses (2015)  -  INDIA

Wild. Happy. Indian. Sexy. Bitchy. Silly. Lovely. Crazy. Angry.
Our Indian Goddesses.
The Indian Goddesses depicted in this movie are either us or our secret inner beings safely hidden away. Which one do you relate to? What is your style?

3. Mustang (2015)  - TURKEY

One of my present favorites! A journey of 5 sisters when forced into a conservative value system and forced marriages. What will they do? What options do they have, what will they choose?
And that moment when one of them asks, "dont you want to live?"

This is for every woman who has to deal with forced marriages. Know your options - Fight, Flight or Freeze?

4. Breadwinner (2017)  -  AFGHANISTAN

Parwana's father is taken away by the Taliban. Her elder brother dies during the war. The only other male member in their family is her toddler younger brother. All of 11 years, what will she do when faced with hunger of her family?
A beautiful story of Parwana turning into the breadwinner of the family!

5. Mona Lisa Smile (2003)  - USA

Though this is a pretty old movie, i find it very relevant even today. Today, with a lot of young highly educated women who give up their careers completely to be someone's token wife. Yes, i do understand and respect choice. But, in many cases it is not an informed choice. It is a societal expectation that they fulfill (good girl syndrome!).

What is funnier is the rhetoric going around these days when a doctor at a recent event of ours says "Women are spoiling their health in a battle of trying to be equal with men. It's just too much work!". Anyway, more on this debate later!

So, that's about it for this season. Do let me know your reviews and more suggestions! Happy watching!!
